Not so sure about this new arc. I’m kind of over Artemis, and Athena, as her supposed adult sister, left me really cold. And the Zodiacs apparently aren’t going to get their cure from being turned into stone anytime soon.

The best part of this issue was the subtle and automatic changing of Barney’s pronoun to “they.” Loved it that all the Lumberjanes addressed Barney properly and no one says anything.

I hope the rest of the Gorgon arc becomes more enjoyable.

I really like Ligo. She fits well with the Lumberjanes and their principles of always solving problems with their minds. Having the snakes also be her eyes was pretty great. Mal and Ripley always ask all the questions. I love how Ripley will always enthusiastically adore her cat powers.

I still don’t know why they trust Diane. She continues to lie all the time. Or at least hide the truth.

Rosie really let April have the keys to the kingdom. It’s good to know that she keeps around the necessary tools for the land the Lumberjanes’ camp is located in. I hope we can explore this shed much more.

I do love that Molly’s finally talking to them about her fear and worry about going home. It was extra great to hear Rosie’s hints that Molly may just never go home. Love seeing Jo and April giving her more confidence.

I did like this issue quite a bit more than the previous issues of Lumberjanes. Perhaps they just haven’t gone on a solid adventure that seemed full of real peril in a while. I mean, currently no one, not even Ligo, knows how to fix Barney and the rest of the Zodiacs. Though clearly being turned to stone can be reversed as we see with the giant bird creatures.

Aww, they found Diane’s heart. Of course, they did. I also like Diane just breaking down and yelling at her real enemy to show themselves.

The conversation about the families was great. It showed all sides of where the girls could’ve come from. It was nice to see Mal offer her listening ear to Molly, and to have Molly finally tell a bit about her family to Mal.

Pietsch’s art is growing with each issue. There are a ton of characters to draw in each scene, and it’s always been important in this book that those characters are different and unique from each other to show the many types of Lumberjanes there can be in the world. But you can see how that’d give any artist a real workout.

I’m looking forward to the gang putting all the clues together.
